Welcome to the website of REHMINE research project.

The REHMINE research project, entitled “Contribution of Corporate Social Responsibility for Sustainable Development”, is underway in SOCIUS (Centre for Research in Economic Sociology and Organizations), ISEG (School of Economics and Management), of UTL (Technical University of Lisbon). The project is funded by FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology), with the reference PTDC/AAC-AMB/103907/2008, and has begun in April 2010.

The major objective of this project is to contribute to maximize the value generated by the rehabilitation of brownfields (degraded industrial areas) by developing a conceptual model of decision support that integrates the interests of stakeholders, based in the principles of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. The project takes as a case study the Mina de São Domingos and the environmental and socio-economic rehabilitation to be performed by the company EDM and other (potential) entities.

To develop this conceptual model we use a multidisciplinary approach. We will apply qualitative and quantitative valuation methods, from those used in anthropology to those applied in economics, in addition to models of environmental valuation. The team is mostly from ISEG, involving the Departments of Social Sciences, Economics, Management and Mathematics, working in conjunction with researchers from the University of Amsterdam, while also enhancing synergies with other research teams working in similar areas.
