Moving around in Coimbra

The city of Coimbra can be reached:

a) By car:
Either coming from Oporto or from Lisbon you should take highway A1.

b) By train:
Coimbra is served by daily trains from Lisbon or Porto. Timetables of trains are available clicking on the name of the city where you will start travelling: Lisbon, Porto. In any case get out of the train at Coimbra B station.

  • If you want to take a taxi you should look for it outside this station. The taxi trip directly from the Coimbra B station to any hotel located in downtown should not cost more than 10 euros (including the extra charge 1.50€ per luggage).
  • If you want to try a city bus, take a train that makes the connection to the station of Coimbra-Cidade (center of Coimbra). In front of this station you will find several city buses stops.



Inside the city of Coimbra:

  • The University area (Pólo I), where the Department of Mathematics is located is served by city bus lines 1 and 3A.
  • Each bus ride will cost 1.30€ if the ticket is purchased to the bus driver. You can buy prepaid tickets at much more convenient prices: 3 rides ticket that costs 1.47€ and 11 rides ticket costing 5.00€. There is also the possibility of purchasing a daily pass by 2.50€.
